Contribution of Head Teachers’ Target Setting towards Learners’ Academic Performance in Kenyan Public Primary Schools

Headteachers are expected to undertake various school management activities such as setting different targets related internal exams, subjects, and KCPE in the quest for improving learners’ academic performance. This particular study examined contribution of head teachers’ target toward performance Kenyan public primary schools. The article is an extract a conducted Makueni County Kenya which used descriptive survey design population 714 schools County. sample size 74 teachers, 428 7 quality assurance officers. researcher collected quantitative data through questionnaires were administered selected teachers while qualitative was interviewing also found that set specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound. Chi-Square test results confirmed teacher’s target-setting practices had significant influence on (χ2= 114.835, p< 0.05). concluded active involvement continuous analysis allowed comprehensive understanding student's areas improvement. recommended should embrace technology phones be ensure engagement parents pupils settings using messages, calls, WhatsApp. Keywords: Target setting, Headteachers, targets, learners, schools, DOI: 10.7176/JEP/14-24-15 Publication date: August 31 st 2023
